In my experience online cages are much cheaper than pet store cages. Especially if you search around for the lowest priced items and free shipping. I often go to Amazon.com and Ebay.com to buy quite a lot of supplies and items for all my pets and I have found some fantastic deals at both places. =} You'll want to shop around and price check as the same item can be listed at different prices if they're from different members, shippers, etc. The same item can also require shipping charges while an identical item has free shipping. So be sure to shop around and bookmark the good ones you find to help you decide which you want to go with. ^_^

Another thing I wanna mention.. Since you have a pregnant rat or litter by now.. You'll need more than one cage. Sexes must be seperated by at least weeks (preferably closer to 5) or you'll have even more!
Our first litter was born March 25th, 2008!!

Make sure to get cages that have at least 1/2" bar spacing so they can't get their heads stuck or escape. They can just WALK right through 1" bars. O_o;; And you wouldn't want that! =S

I've been told by some of my friends who are breeders that between 4.5 and 5 weeks is the best time to wean and separate them by gender into different cages. =}

I personally like these cages, they are under $100. =]
They're not really good for more than two adult rats in the long run, but they work nice for babies.
