Should I move them to one half of the CN?
« on: August 01, 2010, 05:14:41 PM »
Can a cage be TO big for ratties? I only have five girls currently, and they have free run of a double CN cage. They only seem to use the top level though. Rarely will I see a girl on the bottom.  I was debating moving them to one half of the cage.

What would you use the other half for?
If you are gonna put it to good use then sure.
But if its just gonna be empty, why not let them have the extra space?

I would just use it for storage for their stuff if I blocked it off. To save room in my bedroom. But that really wouldn't be fair to them I think. They are used to having the entire cage

If you want them to use the whole cage you could try putting the food and water on different levels. :)
I think it would be fine if you used the bottom for storing their stuff.

Most rats will use the upper levels more, but they still usually use the bottom level too.  It wouldn't be bad to have five in a single CN, its up to you.  I personally would let them use the whole cage, especially since it stinks less quickly in a big cage lol.
