Rat Vet in Fort Worth, TX?
« on: August 18, 2010, 12:15:20 AM »
I wanted to know if anyone here knew of a good one before I go 'vet shopping'. I'm prepared to stock up money and spend it on anything my rats need. ((I'm working on getting a job, it should be somewhat easier as I'm seventeen as of today. More places seem to accept seventeen more than sixteen. Please let me get a job...)) But I'm looking for a decent vet, for a good price. I know there's one up the street, and not only do I think they just do dogs and cats, but I also had a neighbor who had a bad experience with them. ((They wouldn't do a test that would have shown his puppy had a turned-out-to-be-fatal illness even when he assured them he WOULD pay for it and had the money to.))

So, anyone know of good vets? With good prices?

We use Dr. Hille in Dallas (I live in Keller BTW, so it's a touch of a drive).  He was recommended by the local rescue here and so far, we sparkly heart him!!!  He's done wonderful with Sassy and will be doing a tumor removal on her within the next couple of weeks.

Park Cities Animal Hospital
4365 Lovers Lane
University Park, TX 75225
(214) 368-8573
David Hille, DVM

His office visits are $65 (but if you go to their web site, they have a 1st visit free coupon you can use ;) )

Oh, awesome! :D Thanks! ((I've been considering taking my older girls once I get a job cause they've been sneezing, more Nova as of late but still, and I want to either make sure it's nothing or get it taken care of.)) I feel better now with someone recommended. ((I was just having to do a random search of exotic pet vets and was really not wanting to just pick one at random.))

good luck with the job thing!!

I'm actually in South Dallas which is a bit of a drive from Ft. Worth.  :)
If distance is no objective, I use this vet in Carrollton for my exotics. http://www.carrolltonanimalhospital.com/

How much do they charge? Simply for reference's sake.

Hello from Arlington!  :wave2:

I use the following two vets:

Southlake Animal Hospital
http://www.southlakevet.com/

They are located off Hwy 114 in Southlake. A bit of a drive from Arlington or Ft. Worth, but Dr. C and Dr. Moore are AMAZING. They care so much, know their stuff and are very thorough. The building caught me a little off guard, as it is a tiny little stand alone building, but inside is wonderful. They charge about average for exotics in this area. My receipts are all at home, but if I can remember, an office visit is around $50 or so, and a neuter is about $175.
I highly recommend them.

The best local exotics emergency vet for Ft. Worth is also in Southlake. These vets have also been wonderful and are very knowledgeable, but they only do emergencies, and are quite pricey.

This vet is a very nice lady, seems to know her stuff and did a tumor removal for one of my girls. I haven't returned, however, since I found out that she does euthanasia by heart stick without anesthetic.  :worry: That makes me sad, since she seemed like such a great vet, and had been affordable and convenient.

Here is a list of exotics vets that I found in DFW but have never taken my rats to see:

Alternative Veterinary Hospital http://www.alternativeveterinaryhospital.com/
North Carrollton Veterinary Hospital http://www.ncvh.com/
City Vet http://webdvm.lifelearn.com/clinics/llclinic_506/index.php
Animal Medical Center KcKinney http://www.amcmckinney.com/
Arlington Heights Animal Hospital http://www.cowtownvet.com/  <----heard good things, and in Ft. Worth
Summertree Animal Clinic http://www.summertreeclinic.com/
Country Club Pet Hospital http://www.ccpethospital.com/ <----Mansfield
Family Pet Clinic http://fpcvet.net/custom_content/c_39925_north_richland_hills_facility.html <----North Richland Hills

Hope this helps! I can PM you exact prices for things at the Southlake vet later tonight if you'd like.

Thank you for the links! :D I'm not looking for one for any specific reason yet, but I figured it always good to know where one is and which ones have a good rep with my fellow rat lovers. ^-^

Depends what you need him for.
Neuters are $86, spays are $165 and a typical office visit plus doxy and baytril is usually around $110.
