I connected my 2 SuperPet cages !
« on: February 23, 2011, 06:15:18 PM »
so, I received all my parts from SuperPet USA today and was able to put my 2 SP cages together!!! YAY!!!

for those who know me, I do have a passion for cages so I was very excited about that!! LOL

so I ordered :

Part #   Item Name   Quantity   Price
500500652   Passageway Connector (1)   2x $8.98
500012672   Bubble Plug   2 $6.58
500012676   Tube Fun-nel   1   $6.99

3 Items:$22.55
Shipping/Handling:$7.95
Estimated Tax:   $0.00
Order Total:   $30.50

so $30.50 and I got my order within less than a week.

I used a dremmel to cute of 6 wires, to be able to fit the passageways and just ziptied them into place. they can be snapped into place but for the ease of cleaning, I prefer to use Zipties. It is VERY sturdy btw and I'm extremely pleased with the results!!

the connector with the tunnel:

the connector with the bubble end to close the exit if needed:

cages connected:

so for those of you having a smaller SP cage and adding on to your rat family, this is def. a GREAT option to consider, It's not very expensive and totally reversible back to 2 cages if you use this kit

Great job - love those Frankensteined cages!

Question, how big around is the connecting tube?  Right now I'm using a 4" PVC tube for my DIY connector.
Currently smitten with Sandy, Dusty, Ringo, Pretty Boy, Radar and Tigger.

Any many more already at the Bridge - mama loves you all!

well, thank you!! although, I don't think this really qualifies as a "Frankensteined" cage since I used the proper parts meant to connect them together :)

It's like calling a Martin's R-695 + a R-680 making a RUDD cage, a Frankensteined cage  ??? ???

the tubes are 4", they are the same tubes as the ferret trails.

Oh really like!  :) Every thing looks so neat. I bet your rattys are so enjoying that extra room.  ;) I agree this isn't a Frankensteined cage. That would be putting a bird cage :duckie: with a rabbit cage thing.  :bunny: but I could understand somebody seeing it as that.

I took me less than 30 minutes to do the set up and I was taking my sweet time :)

I do have other cages, a Martin's Englander, a Feisty Ferret, used to have a rat resort for temp. and babies and I recently sold my big Kritter Koncept cage, and to be honest, I just LOVE my Superpets!! really, I do!

They are so easy to clean, you can do so many different layouts and they fold back into the base if you don's use them plus it is so easy to get new parts or replacements ones via Superpet USA.

some people complain about the pee rivers, yes, it happens but with drilling small hole along the groove and in the corners , it really helps :) plus I find it MUCH easier to wipe down a solid shelf than a grid one.
Some cover them and it's a good idea, I choose not to because this set up is at our business and I'm trying to keep my rat laundry to a minimum.

I'm very satisfied with these cages/set up and it's not because I haven't had the chance to try other types of cages :)

I forgot to say that this is home to 5 boys  ;D

I did this with a couple cages I had- since one was a Martin's and I didn't want to cut any of the wires, I rigged up one of the doors with a piece of the wire closet shelving and put the tube connector into that. Zip tied it in the door way and used some of the curved tunnels to connect it to a white cage I had from Petsmart. I had the cages in a corner of the room and was able to have one on each wall. It was fun for me and the rats!

i have tons of fabric. i think im gonna make some hammocks like you did.. like big fabric tubes. i dont think my girls can chew that off its holders hah. and ill move the shelves to make another floor space too. i really wanna connect my 2 cages together.. but id have to get some ratties fixed first. one cage girls one boys lol. they are next to eachother now instead of one on top of another. so.. if i ever do decide to put them all together after getting them fixed hopefully they will somewhat know eachother?

my hammocks are actually "rattigamis" from my rat business "rats in pants"
the are flats with buttonholes all around so they can be hung in multiple ways.
click on the link in my signature to view my site and the rattigamis :)

Wow I'm impressed!! Before I got my larger cages, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out a safe and secure way to connect two smaller cages.. and you did it!!

funny fact, I started with LARGE cages, my Kritter Koncept was 48x24x36 and my Martin's Englander was 30x24x54 and I sold them both to keep only my SP cages! ok, I still have my feisty ferret as well, mostly used as a spare/play cage.

I love this currently set up so much, that I'm doing a 2nd one just like it for my girls :)

i just read that you drilled holes for the pee rivers.. i think ill do that too. i think its easier to just wipe down the shelves than to cover with fleece.. it took me 10 min to put fleece on one shelf and attach the shelf back in.. how do yall do that? so for now i just have one shelf with fleece.
