Newborn bunny help!
« on: May 23, 2011, 12:51:11 AM »
A couple weeks ago I found a female bunny wandering around in a parking lot, and managed to catch her. Today she gave birth, I found 4 dead ones and 2 live ones that were in her nest of hair. I moved her to a large dog crate and put the babies in a nest box with her hair. She is in a quiet location, I have blankets over the crate and its dark and warm. I did read that mother bunnies won't go in the nest all the time with them, and they don't feed them very often just 1-2 times a day...I am still worried because of the 4 dead babies, I don't know how they died. She was licking them when I went to feed the bunnies and saw she had given birth.

The two remaining bunnies appear to have full bellies, and are definitely warm. Should I worry? I do have the means to bottle/syringe feed if absolutely necessary.

And other advice anyone can give me? I have absolutely no experience with baby bunnies surprisingly! Ive had baby dogs, cats, rats, mice, hamsters, and guinea pigs but never bunnies!
