I decided to take pictures a little earlier to tonight to take advantage of the good natural lighting in our office.  So here are the Gemstones on Day 3!

This is how Miss Rubie closes the door behind her when she takes a break from the bubs.  :yelcutelaugh:

So stinkin' sweet.

Doing his best baby seal impression.

Cuddle buddies.

Showing me just what he thinks about picture time.

I like how you can really see how his ear is folded over in this picture.

Passed out in my hand. <3

Gosh, I love them.

Yes, they do!  I'm planning on cutting my fingernails tonight because I keep getting scared that I'm going to slice one of them open... their skin is so soft and delicate.  I'm not sure how it holds up so well to Rubie's teeth, haha.  I've got the air mostly cut off to this room just to keep things warm in here, and I had just came in from outside when I took the pictures.  I washed my hands before handling them, but I was just so hot that they ended up kind of sweaty before I finished taking pictures, and by the last one the bubs were sticking to me when I picked them up.   :yelcutelaugh:

I'm resisting the urge to go take them right now, because I know they'll probably be even darker in a few hours.  It is downright ridiculous how quickly the develop.

They are adorable!

This is what I love about this site. I can live vicariously through someone else's little ones and watch them develop and grow.

I had a friend/boss that got  me into my ratties years ago (same one that bought me the girls for my birthday this year) that had an oops litter that I got to watch from birth to all of their rip. She keep all but the two boys that came to me and three little girls that went to another coworker and good friend.. It was very bonding and exciting for the rats and the three of us! I would never breed or want to have a litter here, but I do so love watching it.

Yay pictures!  Here are the Gemstones on Day 4!

As you can see, their markings are starting to show!

Their ears have unfolded, too!

Well... most of them.

I think my initial attempt at sexing was actually correct... I won't swear by it, but I'm pretty sure we only have 2 boys.

Haha, that poor girl on the bottom. <3

Oh... and Rubie ate my wall.

My girls have been doing that to the wall behind the toilet while I clean their cage.  ::)

They look so much like minuscule puppies when their ears first unfold!
And hey, it's not so unlikely that you only have two boys. If I remember correctly Shelagh's rat Lilith had a litter of all boys.

Picture time!  Here are the Gemstones on Day 5!

Entropy!

<3

The capped babies.

The berkies.  4 headspots and 1 blaze, it looks like.

The pink-eyed babies.  Would their markings be showing yet if they were going to be beige like their momma, are does it look like we have PEW's?

The boys (reserved already!).

I think tomorrow I'm gonna bust out some markers and start assigning names.  ;D

They are so precious!
Also, methinks you either have some very bad blacks, or quite a few blueish ratlets!  :cheeky:

Here is a picture of some 4 day old rittens that are undeniably black for comparison;

As for the PEWs, back in '09 I had a litter of 8 and I thought 4 of them were PEW right up until they were about 9-12 days old when I realized they 3
were actually the palest shade of beige I have ever seen in my life. 2 berks and a hooded. I also got the surprise of my life when those three
opened their eyes and they were ruby! It would appear that red and ruby eyes don't show through the lids, only black. So it's possible that you
won't know for sure how many (if any) of those little ones is truly PEW until they get their fur in.

Oh my gosh so cute!

I think they will be black.  They are the same exact color as miette's babies and they are all very black now.

Ugh,they are so tempting!

Why are you so far away??? I want them ALL lol. And if those turn out to be blue babies I might just have to flip out. I have a huge weakness for blueies...  :laughing6:

Wow apple, those guys are wayyy darker than mine!  I would really love it if they were blues, it's definitely my favorite coat color.  Would agouti not look lighter than black, though?  And glad to hear that beige markings might take awhile to show up... not that I have anything against PEW's, but I know they aren't as adoptable.

they look so much like a mix between my thumb and a puppy dog haha.

 :yelcutelaugh:

I'm glad you guys are enjoying the pictures!  It's so much fun watching them grow... right now I usually only bug them for pictures and every time I go in there I'm like ... they change so fast!

It could be agouti. I've never seen that colour develop before, and I don't know how much the flash of your camera is changing the way their markings show.
Here are some ~7 day agouti pups.

A trick we do in MRR to make sure that everyone has a shot at adoption is that if someone for instance wants like, the one rex baby with a blaze, we will only adopt it to them if they also take a PEW.  ;)
