Some types of dog flea and tick medicine is not good if you have cats, I think its advantix? if the cat is around it for like more than a day, it can make the cat very sick, any longer than that, can kill the cat..but your vet SHOULD warn you if thats the case..but not all do.

Thats why I mentioned it. However, the problem is when its first applied. The dog and cats need to be separate for at least 8 hrs if the dog uses a treatment the also covers ticks. After that its supposed to be safe. I never took the chance I just kept the dog out of the areas where the ticks were and used advantage flea.
