beautiful cube.

And, an amazing find in the remnants bin and skill making it so purty.

I was looking in one of my many drawers full of fabric and found a very un-girly green fabric. It wasnt a lot of fabric, so I decided to use it up and use some fleece scraps that matched. These are actually going to be for my neighbor's guinea pig!!! There is a large snuggle sack and a quilted hammock with large hanger loops. I have heard that guinea pigs will use hammocks if they are very low to the ground, but I don't know that for sure. Any guinea pig owners wanna chime in?

Sorry the picture is so terrible! It is from my cell phone. You can't even tell what color it really is!

I only hand sew so it takes me forever to make hammocks.  This is what I've made in the past week though.

Two corners, one pocket, and one double decker. I adore this cupcake cotton and I need to buy more of it, I only bought a fat eighth worth since I ordered from someone online and I was doubtful I'd like it too much but I love it.

My first cube.. And, boy are they not easy, but the Dutch site with all of the pictures is awfully helpful (and google translate helped too. LOL)

And, the ratties are just loving the new cube, although it sags quite alot.  What do people find is the most effective way to strengthen the bottom?

I just let mine sit lightly on a shelf and that solves the sagging problem.  :yelcutelaugh: I wonder if there's a type of stiff yet flexible plastic you could put between the bottom sheets of fabric that would be rattie safe while still providing some sort of structure?

Oh, and your cube is adorable! Love the fabric!

Thank you, Roorat.  I've been having a lot of fun with the printed panel fabrics.  I've been stitching along the outlines of the pictures (quilting), but for the cube I just sewed it all together.  Here's a picture of my rats enjoying the cube.

I was just trying to get a picture of them trying to drag the hazelnut keurig box into the cube, but "Doctor" wanted into the picture too.  He's on top of the cube.  I dont know if you can see how badly it is sagging.  But , the sag is horrendous.  I will definitely have to strengthen the bottom when I make more cubes, but I dont know what's best to use yet.

Some fabrics seems to sag more than others in cubes. I also find that the larger the cube, the more the sag when they're in the cage. I use a layer of double fleece on the bottoms sometimes and that seems to work a bit.

I keep looking at Linaeve's hammocks, and am just amazed that they are hand sewed.  They look awesome, and I am just amazed at your patience to sew them.

I've been making snuggle sacks lately.

A bunny sized one for the new bunny.

Then I only have a picture of this one with one of the rescues in it.

Thanks Ratilda! I love your use of panels for cubes, do you use different panels all the way around?

LittlePaws, I love that turtle fabric and the rattie is adorable too. :3

Yes, Linaeve, there's a different nursery rhyme on each of the 6 walls.  Top is Hickory Dickory Dock.  Front is Jack Be Nimble.  Left side is What little boys and girls are made of.  Right side is Little Miss Muffit.  Back is Wee Willie Winkie (who the little rats are altering so that he has a hole in an unfortunate place-- sigh... rats)  Bottom is Little girl with a curl.

I really enjoyed picking out the rhymes and placement.

Ive been sewing up a storm....making cat beds for my rescue group and using the scraps for rattie stuff.  My boys are going to be spoiled by the time my sewing is over.  ;D

A couple small cubes...good for one Rattie...somehow both my boys can squeeze in.

matching hammock to small and large cube

pocket hammocks

Orange cube...if they can't eat an orange at least they can sleep in something that looks like one!

Matching corner hammock

matching hammock with a little mini-hammock underneath...was trying something new.

One of my cat beds....I can't wait to make hammocks out of the scraps left over from these fabrics!

I love that orange cube and matching hammocks (I love orange :D).
Awesome cat bed! I want to make my dog a bed sometime but who knows if it's ever going to happen :P.
I recently made some hammocks. For the Northern MI rat rescue. I'll post some pics sometime!

I love that honeycomb, I'm going to attempt making one soon.  Do rats really enjoy them?

My old girl Meg would sometimes sleep separate from the others just to be in the honeycomb- she loved them!
The other rats went in there too sometimes, but it was definitely her favourite.
It was always a joy to find 3 rats piled up on different levels- I really felt like it was doing its job!

gullideth - Honeycombs are a mainstay in any rat cage I decorate, and now mouse cages!  They fill up space awesomely, and I've yet to meet a critter (be it rats, mice, ferrets, chinchillas...) that didn't love honeycombs  :)

rat_cuddler - Aw, thank you!  I have to admit though, I have waaaaaay too many hammocks for my mice.  I end up sewing them so many hammocks because any time I cut up an order, it generates fabric scraps that I'd feel bad just throwing away.  I probably have enough mouse hammies to fully decorate 20+ cages  :yelcutelaugh:

Lauren_22 - You and I have such a similar taste in fabrics, so I just love seeing all the hammocks you make and your cages all done up!

I've been busy the last two days and sewed myself into a frenzy.
A little unfortunate, because I stayed up late rushing them- we have a house inspection tomorrow and the rats aren't supposed to be here, but they kind of let us off and I think it's because they look so clean :)

Anyhow, they still had their christmas hammocks up and they were getting a bit tatty, so I rushed these new ones and they didn't come out perfect.:(

Neverless, a big pile of hammocks (Although I've just seen your pile Lauren and now mine looks small!)
