Captain Jack Sparrow
« on: March 27, 2012, 07:56:23 PM »
Since I had to throw out all the old toys and shelves and spent the last two days making more...  :yelcutelaugh: I thought I'd get some pictures for you. Captain Jack, who is now also on abs. We'd love all the good vibes we can get. Chinchillas are so sensitive.  :-\ (Kindly ignore the chipped pan.  :yelcutelaugh: I'll repaint it eventually, but most chin owners keep their chins in non-painted pans, so it's not really a big deal.)

I have more ledges, but I ran out of hardware.  I have to go get a length of PVC tubing for him, too. And a sheet of wood to make a hidey.

He is such a lovely looking chin. My stepbrothers are both that standard gray.
Do you think you might eventually get him a new companion? They live such a long time.

I am playing around with the idea, but I am very hesitant. I am quarantining him for at LEAST a month, because he's showing signs of the same URI Rum had, and they're extremely contagious in chinchillas. He's on abs and is doing well, though!

I stalked some chinchilla forums and talked to some people, and apparently it's really acceptable to keep chinchillas alone. I made him some cuddle buddies for him to snuggle with, though. My main hesitance is that seemingly chinchillas can just decide they want to rip each other apart (http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14833). I think if I decide to get him another cagemate, I will wait until I have less rats, and then I can split one of my double FNs in case they don't get along.

They do live a VERY long time. I imagine he'll have the same lifespan as my dog. Right now, he's seeming to do okay with all the cuddles he's getting, and lots of new toys and treats. Kind of hoping another chinchilla will find me after his QT is over and that'll make up my mind for me.  :yelcutelaugh:
