Oh wow, I really hope the chest tumour is operable! That's much better news than an automatic no! The girls are way too freaking cute, how can you handle those little faces.

I handle don't worry, lots of cute faces here, so I am immune to their charms...NOT!

The chest tumour doesn't worry me too much, its right on the breast bone.  The side/abdominal one does a LOT and this is the one we did the FNA on, and is potentially operable.  She's peeing and pooping just fine so its not attached to something digestive at least.  :thumbsup2:

Well tonight I discovered that Junebug can popcorn!!  I put in lettuce in their small cage, and she got so excited she was popcorning and letting me tickle her and bounce...she almost bounced out the door!!  She even set off little May who played with me for a bit   :hyper:

Then she went on about the serious business of getting that tricky lettuce IN her mouth.  A hydro baby is a lot like a PT rat in some respects, but they don't worsen, and are very full of life like little Buggy baby.

Lettuce for me???

OK this is a good start...

Ooop now we are going up...

C'mon lettuce get IN there!!

Teetering but never falling over   :yelcutelaugh:

She ate it all, took her a while but she did it, and she was sooo proud of herself

hey,
i have lovely little rat thats exactly the same colour as your little june...his name is nigel....he also has a growth in the exact same spot....and he also likes to sleep on my chest....he has recently been starting to get ill...i think its old age he would be over 3 by now....i took them in from a friend who really didnt have the time for them...they were never handled and it took me months to get them tame...i ended up with alot of bites on the hand but now they are apart of the family...and very very naughty...they love getting into my hand bag and chewing on anything they can find...its breaking my heart knowing that nigels time is nearly up...but the way i see it i have given them a good life and aslong as hes still eating and drinking and seems happy then i will leave him be......i just wanted you to no that you are a good rat owner and your babies seem to have a very good life and im thinking of you and your little rats

OK I am home now and can answer questions and even think about things again.

My vet called me with the results.  First thing he checked was the name of the pathologist and we lucked out and got the best one there.  This woman really knows her stuff.

Sadly its not good stuff.

Spindle Cell Sarcoma possibly Fibroma or highly differentiated fibrosarcoma.

In layman terms, a malignant tumour that spreads and probably already has.

With links for the more curious...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spindle_cell_sarcoma

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibrosarcoma

With this type of tumour, her being a baby and having the hydrocephalus, her chances of surviving the surgery are very very poor.   Junebug is happy right now and will now be on palliative care for the rest of her short life.  My guess is 2-4 weeks are left of it.

One of the lines in the article jumped out at me:  "may be caused by a combination of other factors including injury and inflammation in patients that are already thought to be predisposed to such tumors."  So odds are good this is a result of her being in with adults who attacked her, and the previous owners doing nothing about it.  Poor baby.  :(

I know you'll spoil her rotten for the time she has left, and I hope you have many more good days than you expect!

Tonight I cleaned cages and ran ratters and finally I was able to take Junebug and May out :)

Tonight was the discovery of gerber puffs...May gently takes them from my fingers then runs, but Junebug was having trouble, so I dipped it in water and held it for her :)

OMGZ this is good mom!!!

The only problem is that my finger often or not would get the hard nip, not the food so I started handing them over, and then I started taking pics of her eating routine...hehe

friends

I can do this!!

She looks so proud of herself doesn't she?   ;D
