ferrets and fleas

Okay let me start off by saying this ferret was found abandoned in a house. She was nasty, covered in fleas and missing hair. Her hair IS growing back already but I am still having flea problems. I need to know what is safe. My vet said anything safe for kittens., but I would rather not chance it. We don't have any exotics vets around here and I don't trust a regular vet. Also she is kinda thin, I have her on marshall diet but need some ideas for weight gain. Already giving her ferretone and the high calorie vitamin paste. She already looks alot better than when we found her but I didn't have flea problems before.

Is there a shampoo, spray or topical safe to use on her? Preferably something I can order online or buy at petsmart.

I've had rats for years but first ferret of my own. I have some experience but not my own ferret until now. Thanks for any advise.

You do not want to use a spray, or anything store brand. It often causes seizures, organ failure, etc. in cats and dogs. There was actually a topic recently here where someone uses generic flea stuff on their cat, who ended up in the hospital for quite awhile. Very unsafe.

You want something safe for kittens, you vet is correct. You can use the blue dawn dish soap, but that will be eradicate all of the fleas. You want to wash her bedding and your carpets and bedding, as well. Kitten Revolution must be prescribed by a vet, but is completely safe for ferrets. I wouldn't really suggest anything else, because I've never used anything else and probably wouldn't trust it. Revo is safe for kittens, rats, mice, ferrets, etc. Great product.

I used dawn but the fleas come back or I didn't get them all. I washed everything and vacuumed everything. I've never had a flea problem with my rats or guinea pigs before. I got mites one time from bedding but found vet balm takes care of that problem.

The dawn definitely won't get rid of them. It'll just give her some relief from the itchy and kill some of the ones on her. you'll definitely need to get the Revo and do a full treatment again. You may want to treat the other pets in the house, too.

I've read of others using frontline and advantage. Any experience?
I can't afford another vet bill until next month so I need something I can get over the counter until then. Even if I have to order it, that is fine.
