Introducing Mickey
« on: June 10, 2012, 08:04:37 PM »
It's been a few years since I've had pocket pets, mostly because my mom doesn't like them, and I've tried being more respectful of her since I'm still living at home. This morning her husband was complaining about mice- they spend a lot of time at a scout camp, and the wild mice are always getting into stuff. This time he was complaining that he had been given a bunch of lollipops and he put them in his backpack, in his tent. A mouse got into his backpack, pulled out all the candy and scattered it around his tent, and pulled out two rolls of toilet paper, and shredded them. He's still a little irritated about the incident, even though my mom and I think it's a funny story.

So today while we were running errands, my mom and I went to PetSmart while he was shopping nearby, and we saw a cute little black mouse, and decided he needed to come home with us (I had pretty much everything I needed for him already, so while he was a bit of an impulse buy, it wasn't an irresponsible one). He has been named Mickey, because I'm a huge Disney fan. And while it was a joke, her husband actually thinks he's pretty cute. He's never really seen fancy mice, only the wild ones.

Currently I have him set up in a 5.5 gallon tank, but he'll probably be moved into a 10 gallon by the end of the week. I want to give him lots of fun stuff to play with, and give it a Disney theme. He's going to be one spoiled mousey, since he's going to be my only little critter for awhile.

I'm excited, and I can't wait to start working with him to get him better socialized, but I'm being patient and letting him settle into his new home.

he's very cute, I've never had much luck making mice friendly(not the same as rats anyway).. but they're fantastically entertaining. They make amazing nests. Make sure you remember to freeze your carefresh overnight before giving it to him (Thats what that looks like to me anyway) as there's a lot of talk of people getting mites and other nasties from it.

Yes, a sweet face, indeed.  1+ on the carefresh...we had too many mite issues before I knew to do that!  Best of luck.

I think the wild ones are cute, too, but it doesn't help when they are infesting your house and overrunning everything!  (Hey, same true with rats, raccoons, etc., though I'm fond of them all!)
