Does anyone know if this breeder is any good?

RattiesSix:
I just did a quick scan of their website, and I think they look nice and legit. Small number of breeding rats, only one litter currently being raised, upfront about past health issues, all rats have extensive pedigrees that are available to the public. They go a holistic route with their rat's diets, which I don't think is a red flag at all, but I'd make sure you inquire extensively about their diet and what they expect their adopters to do with their rat's diet. They don't seem to be breeding any red flag colours or anything.

I wasn't going to post anything but after getting a statement from the vet on what I have spent on tumor care over the last year and realizing I could have had 7 rounds of Bravelle for what I have spent on on ratty visits..

I looked at the lines and some of the rats I have had tumor issues with come from some of the same breeders. I am not comfortable listing them here as I don't want to be labled a "breeder basher" but I guess you can PM if you want the rats I was told have tumor issues, as well as the rats I had tumor or other issues with. I would be happy to send you that info so you can avoid those lines. I actually just dl a pedigree and a rat that had known tumor issues that her daughter and several grandaughters have also had mammary tumors and even 2 of her grandsons had tumor issues and 1 had HED was a grandparent.

I will say I do have one girlie from that line, my April, whom is almost 27 months and is doing spectacular. However, her littermate, Ava, died at 18 months while in recovery from a mammary tumor removal and spay. And Macree and Guinness also had tumor issues and Macree had HED. Jack also had HED and is related to that particular rat... and Jill is has her second mammary tumor at almost 26 months.

Of course I also wound up dealing with a very strange tumor on Puck and, as far as I know, none of his relatives had a history of tumors and Kimber, and none of her relatives were listed with tumor issues, as well as their daughter Havarti (Havarti got her first tumor at 15 months, she has her second at 18 months). The other 3 living babies have never had a health issues, nor have 3 of my others (Syrma, Stratus, and Poppy - the first 2 are just over a year, Poppy is over 2 and her "sister" had her first tumor at 2+). Kimbers sire lived to be 30 months and was always very health until that last month, when he developed HED.

I'd really like to know what rats have tumors and breeders to avoid, but unfortunately,it says I can't send out private messages. Thanks for the informative post by the way.
