Baby Rats in Los Angeles
« on: August 31, 2012, 04:11:59 AM »
So I recently was given two pregnant female rats. The original owner had male and female rats and let them play together (meh...) because "when they started humping she always broke them apart". So, when they inevitably got pregnant, she didn't want to deal with babies at all and was going to either; give them to the pound or back to the pet shop where they would most likely be sold as snake food. So of course I intervened.
One of the litters is born and is ready for new homes next week. The other female may or may not be pregnant in another week I should know for sure, I am keeping the mother and three of the already born litter, but still need to find homes for the pregnant female (after she gives birth and the kittens are weaned) and the 5 remaining kits.

So the babies available next week are:

beige dumbo black eyes 1 male 1 female
white/silver standard ear black eyes female (started out pure white and now has a silvery/fawn color)
blue/silver standard ear black eyes 2 males (started out a medium blue and now are a light baby blue with silver highlights)

The mom is a medium solid gray with a blaze and I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure the father was the dark blue dumbo with a lighter underbelly, either way the kittens are gorgeous and super friendly since I play with them daily. I'm keeping the mom of this litter so don't ask, she's a sweetheart I'm in love sorry.

The other probably pregnant female is a black rex self. I have no idea which rat she was pregnant by. Her old owner also owned a blue male(father of the first litter), a black rex and a black hooded. She warmed up to me really fast but is not getting along with my existing rats as well as the other mom, she has a small bald spot from them over grooming her. She is really friendly and is up for adoption after her kittens (if she is pregnant) are weaned.
I might consider adopting the pregnant mom out before she has her kittens to the right person who has the ability, experience, money and patience to raise a litter of kittens, but you would need to spend sometime talking to me I will not hand her over to just anyone.
Thank you all for your time and sorry if I seem kind of strict I just want to make sure these rats go to good homes I'm sure you understand.

I still have the cream dumbo boy available and the two blue boys. Is anyone interested? Oh and the second rat was not pregnant after all and she has found a home.
