new puppy! Do you know what kind she is?
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:13:40 PM »
Here she is!

Would not stay still!

Visiting my dad.  She was a bit nervous about it at first lol

Her eyes aren't really that color :P it's just my flash

LOL my current dog sticking his tongue out at her  :yelcutelaugh:

cutie!

I adopted her from dear friends that found her starving by a tombstone (we think someone left her there) but they have enough dogs so they couldn't keep her.  They've been trying to find her a home & when I visited them I ended up taking her home :P

She's roughly 8-10 months old & very sweet & playful.  She's been spayed, had her shots, has been tested for heart worms, etc.  My friends took care of everything basically.
Of course it doesn't matter what kind of dog she is but i'm just curious :) I'm thinking maybe part lab, min pin??

I'm really looking forward to training her & raising her :) she's a very good dog but she doesn't know anything (except she's potty trained).  My main focus right now will be to heel & not pull like crazyy on the leash when she's on walks.  I hate that & it seems like it's the hardest thing to train :/ I think I'm going to get a halter though so she won't choke herself.
Oh & I didn't post this in the dog section since it seems like nobody looks there, I hope it's okay.

She looks like she has rat terrier in her, to me. One of my mutts (rat terrier x) looks similar to her (he's just bigger, but same ears, color, white patch on chest, etc). I don't really see much lab, but labs are so funky looking these days, who knows!

I am REALLY not the dog specialist...but until I developed severe allergies, I was around many, a lot.

Those ears...I think if part rat terrier it could be sign.  (They are adorable, BTW).  Size with rat terrier mixes really varies.  I've known a couple up close.  (Like really close!)

Some of the rest I'd have no clue...what a nice, long and gorgeous face!  Such a pretty one.

Thanks for the input :). For some reason I can't picture a rat terrier right now :P *goes to look up picture*

Also I forgot to mention that she doesn't have a name yet & suggestions are welcome :). So far I've thought of Ellie & Zoe (leaning more towards Ellie at this point), but I need help lol!

Also I think the person(s) who left her abused her beforehand, & I think that person was a man because she's cautious towards guys & acts afraid of them (& sometimes flinches when guys touch her :()  & at my friends house we were walking her & a big rough looking guy drinking beer walked up wanting to pet her & she snarled & growled at him.  Now she could have just generally felt him a threat because of his appearance but still, she acted scared of my dad at first (now she's almost 'normal' with him) & my brother :/
poor baby girl.

I love the name Zoe, but think I vote for Ellie!

I just wanted to say not to be too quick on assuming she was abused. My dog has been with me since she was four weeks old, and was in a friend's home before then. She has never been abused or even smacked lightly as a form of punishment. The worst she gets is a sharp command if she's doing something that needs to be immediately corrected (Like chasing the cat.). And me and my mum are the only ones who ever scold her. So her experiences with men have ONLY ever been neutral or positive.

However, she will lunge and bark/growl at men, especially ones she doesn't know. She adores my dad, but if he talks in a serious voice or raises his voice, she acts scared and will crouch when he goes to pet her. She was socialized constantly as a puppy and through adulthood, never had negative reinforcement used against her, has always been fed/watered/played with constantly/etc. She is a spoiled baby.  :yelcutelaugh: But I think if anyone didn't know her, they would think she was abused.

Some dogs seem to act that way towards men a lot, especially small dogs. Maybe it is because they have gruffer mannerisms and voices, maybe it's because they actually were abused, but my girl never was and she is still a big dufus, lol.

I had (species change) a male cat who was the same way with most men for a very, very long time.  (Say like 8 years).  Me not included.  I got a kind, vet student BF and he totally turned around in regards to men.  Still never will know quite what happened.  I know dogs are different...but just the perspective.

Perhaps a mix between a Manchester Terrier and a low-white Rat Terrier?

Really (to me) looks like an unmarked (or "poorly marked") Toy Manchester Terrier. Head shape, ear set, eye shape, coat (other than lack of typical markings...) and size all resembles that of a Toy Manchester Terrier.... It's gotta be in the mix somewhere!

Thanks everyone!  Whatever she is she's a cutie & she's doing so well.  Basically completely potty trained, & has learned almost all the basic commands (she's a freakishly fast learner lol).
