Prairie Dog pics, because I haven't posted in ages.
« on: September 15, 2012, 07:40:52 PM »
The three prairie dogs are doing wonderfully, although Beet girl has grown up to be a princess brat of a PD, and nippy as all get-out when she doesn't get her way.  Rudy yahoo's EVERY SINGLE TIME you pet him, complete with the jump.  Spud, is a cuddle muffin all the way.  He CRAVES attention, and if he feels like he didn't get enough from you and you put him back in the cage, he will chirp and complain LOUDLY!!!

Also, prairie dogs?   AMAZING freaking pets.   Social, loving, crave attention constantly, cuddles, vocal, smart, give kisses, brux, etc.  Spud is bonded hardcore and follows me around the house all the time.

All I can say is oh my god. Those are the cutest things!
Do they act similar to rats?

I know someone who has prarie dogs, though they've all been rescues.  (We had a friend many years ago who had them).  I never know for sure what I think about breeding them to be pets, but the fat lil' ones I've known have seemed to be pretty darned cool.

I sneeze a lot (allergies) and they always vocalize in return!  I'm not sure what they think I'm saying!

Snuggling in my sweatshirt, teasing the golden retriever until he gives them a tongue bath...I admit I'm rather smitten.

Cute pics...though I've never seen a harness on one!  How did you find one to fit on their chubby little bodies?

I have a couple cat harnesses for them.  Honestly Spud's not that chubby compared to Rudy.  Beet is tiny, too, but still chunky.   I don't know why, but he's always been solid and not fat.  Rudy is a year younger than him and he's HUUUUUGGEEEE!!!!

Oh, I wasn't saying they were actually fat for prarie dogs (though some sure get that way!) I just love their big "chunky" rodent bodies.  I'm also a fan of the woodchucks around here.  We really didn't have them where I grew up.  (Or not that I saw).

I love their long black claws and their chubby little bodies...they are so fun to see running around, and with some rare exceptions, pretty darned sweet.  Nice to have more than one, though as they are SO social!

my cousin had a prairie dog when we were like 12, and her name was trixie, she acted just like a ferret. I loved that girl!
