Sorry, species change...but 15 years ago I adopted two kitties from the Humane Society...which in Indiana wasn't so humane. They were the best ever. (And lived to be 14+ and 15+). Back then, there really weren't many other rescue options, or not at least on the internet.
Got a rescue kitty a week ago. Still hoping that works out for the best!
I don't actually think it's wrong to adopt from "kill shelters" because they are kitties who really need a home. I was reluctant in taking my mom with me to adopt my last two because I was afraid she'd just want the cutest two. I told her in advance that I was probably going to get the two closest to their "time out" time (when they'd be euthanized), and what super cats they were.
I know some people don't say that "mutts" live longer, but I'm not sure about that. It's a mixed bag and you just never know. But there are breeds with some real problems. I just let the right animal come to me!
