Good Vibes?
« on: October 21, 2012, 05:48:13 PM »
Avery goes in for the mass removal on the bump above her anus tomorrow at 2pm. The vet says it should be a fairly quick surgery, but I am a nervous wreck. They are working with me to make sure she is there as minimal time as possible so her anxiety isn't too bad. But I have rarely been without my dog in the last nearly 4 years except for a couple short trips wherein I was immediately happy to come home to her. She is the epitome of soulmate, so of course this is a bit nervewracking. We'll be sending a tissue sample off for biopsy, as well. Any thoughts are so appreciated.

There really aren't many photos of us not together.  :yelcutelaugh:

Those are some cute pictures. My grandfathers dog just had surgery on her anus too. I was really scared but apparently it was super easy.
Your girl will be home soon :)

I'm so glad to hear that! My vet says it's a difficult spot and will be a literal pain in the butt for her. I would be less worried if it were a different area. I don't know many people whose dogs have had issues right there.

Well I don't imagine it's too comfortable, but she's doing good! She had the surgery maybe two or three weeks ago now. They didn't know if it the lump was cancerous or not because my grandfather just opted for surgery right away where she's old but she's okay. Has had to be in a cone this whole time because she naturally over licks herself, but within the first week or so she was going on very long walks again and stuff.

That's definitely what I needed to hear. :] We are opting for the biopsy to see if it's cancerous, because my girl isn't even four yet. We've got the cone ready in case she licks, and we're going to sleep on the living room floor the first couple nights so she doesn't have to jump onto the beds.  :yelcutelaugh:

Waiting for her to get out of surgery right now. The vet let me stay til they finished her blood panel and put her under. And listened to me explain ALL her issues and what to watch for. They're good at dealing with nuerotic owners.

She's home. Waaaay drugged and paranoid, very jumpy. Had a couple small liver treats dipped in water. She's fighting the meds instead of sleeping.

Advice?
« Reply #7 on: October 22, 2012, 08:00:15 PM »
She keeps trying to drag her butt on the ground and she NEVER cries and she's whining a lot. I feel absolutely wretched. I can't let her walk much because she drags. We're about to try to put a diaper on her. I may take her back to the vet tomorrow if we can figure out a bandage. But does anyone have any advice?

Oh dear, I have no advice!  But I wanted to say I hope she heals quickly.  Poor girlie!  Did she get any pain meds?  If the incision area is painful and itchy, she might be dragging her but to itch the itchies.

Poor doggie bum.  :puppy_dog_eyes:
The good thing about a diaper is they are slick so her dragging wont affect the area. If a diaper doesnt work go to goodwill and pick up some slick nylon little girl undies in a couple sizes you think would work.

Well, we gave her half a tranquilizer (Prescribed by the vet and the vet said it was alright to give her one.). She got a 24 hour painkiller injection during the surgery and we can give her another in the morning. We figured out that she had to pee and we took her into the bathroom to just let her go on a puppy pad. She got a little food (Chicken and liver treats) with the tranq and now she's out cold. Hopefully she'll sleep for awhile. My poor little girl.

Sounds like you're doing everything right... I hope it's good news from the biopsy (it should be, she's young and looks in great shape)... and that your cutie heals quickly and without issues.

*hugs* to Avery

She was a lot more herself today. A good thing and a bad thing. She. won't. stop. jumping. The tranquilizers didn't work.  :shocked2: And we can't crate her. So I spent the day chasing her.

She went in for her second suture check today and the vet said all looks good!

Biopsy results came back. It WAS a mass cell tumour, and it’s a grade 2. The vet explained it that grade 1 is non-cancerous, grade 3 is cancerous. Grade 2 is they’re not sure enough so they don’t want to say it ISNT cancer, because they’re covering they’re ass. Biopsy results also say that the entire tumour was excised. Also apparently brindle dogs are more prone to these things, and she is brindle. So… weird.

So luckily, the vet said that’s pretty good news. And once she’s all healed up, we’ll just keep an eye out for more tumours in the same area and elsewhere and if they pop up, we’ll remove and discuss options.

She gets to have her sutures removed on Halloween!

I bought her a hamburger on the way home and now she is craaaashed. :’)

Avery got her stitches out yesterday!  :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

She's pretty much back to normal. Her butt is healing up, but it's a little lumpy.  :yelcutelaugh: She's very happy we don't have another vet visit scheduled. We were there FIVE times in three weeks and she haaates the vet.
