What would be the best ferret cage suited for two ferrets?
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:07:54 PM »
I am currently looking to upgrade my ferrets to a bigger cage because we just got a new guy, Puck.

I really, really want to get a Ferret Nation, though I just don't know if I could afford it, even with the saving up I plan to do this summer.

So, other than the Ferret Nation, what other cages would fit one lazy ferret and one very energetic ferret?

Also, if I have to order it off line, what would be the best website to go to?

I'm not sure much about ferrets, but Martin's cages has an awesome line of affordable and quality cages. Not to mention an amazing customer service who can have the cages modified to fit your needs and wants. :thumbsup2:

A single ferret nation isn't too expensive and big enough for 3

What do you mean single? Do you mean the one with just one level?

Are you sure just a single FN could fit 3 ferrets?

That's the suggested. If they get enough out time they mostly just sleep in their cage.  That is 4 cubic feet each

During school, I'm not able to let them out as much so the bigger the cage the better.

I made a post on Craigslist yesterday though I still need to save up some money before I even consider anything.

I have 4 in a Feisty Ferret right now. As long as you can cover the floors (they're bars instead of a solid shelf), it works out pretty well. Definitely keep an eye on CL though and be prepared to do cleaning/painting.

Are your ferrets pretty active? My ferret, Marilyn is very quiet and small and not very energetic. Puck, on the other hand, is very playful and energetic so that's why I really want to get them a bigger cage so I won't have to worry about them destroying everything while I'm at school. How long do you have to let your ferrets everyday? During the summer, I'm off so I can allow my ferrets to have free roam of the house though while I'm away at school or somewhere else, I can't let them out as often so I need a bigger cage so they don't feel as cramped.

I don't know, it's just even the Feisty Ferret cage seems like it wouldn't even be enough for my two. Maybe it just seems that way on the computer... Is it bigger in person?

My ferrets are fairly energetic. The calm ones lull the hyper ones into sleep; I'm lucky that way. They get 1-2 hours of out time during the week and up to 4 hours on the weekend. My guys do best with 1-2 hour long stints at a time with naps in between. If you can get away with it, I'd suggest having one litter box in the cage instead of one on each level which opens up a lot more space.

When I had just two, there was plenty of room for them to play but I was able to keep food/water and their litter box in the bottom without any problems. Our newest girl will go on the fleece so they've been downsized a little.
