Fatty vs Thinny: Separate Feeding Tips?
« on: August 08, 2014, 02:50:50 PM »
So, my cat Toulouse is overweight and needs to lose the poundage. He's 15lbs.
Kittyrat is 7lbs and can't afford to lose weight.
They're gonna go on all wet food.
So, any tips on how to get the one to lose weight and the other to maintain?

Various thoughts:

Feeding in seperate rooms, portion control, and restricting Toulouse from eating Kittyrat's extras
Also, lots of exercise can help just as much as changing foods. Cat towers and even 10-20 minutes of chasing string or whatever can help a lot. Eliminate extra treats or otherwise remember to count them towards kitty's meals. I give portions of my cat's meal as treats so he's not overeating but feels like he's being spoiled.

I feed raw so I'm not sure what guidelines for wet food feeding are, but giving appropriate amounts of food helps a lot. I follow a 3-5% of desired body weight and go up/down depending on his behavior and the weather (less in hot weather, more in chillier is how my guy seems to be going). He eats 7-8oz of food a day and is about 18lbs. It's been a while since I've weighed him though.

^All of that.  LOL

You may find that they even out a bit once they're on wet, too.  It's higher protein, which is what their bodies need, with less fillers.  So your fat one may thin down, and you thin one may bulk up a bit just by that switch.
