Guinea Pig eye discharge
« on: July 10, 2015, 01:57:03 AM »
I noticed when i got home from work that my guinea pig had eye discharge, a little rapid breathing(i cant really hear any clicking or raspyness) and ha/ d lost a little weight e=when i started checking him more. gave him some lettuce and he ate a little, does this sound like RI? he is responsive but doesnt want to move much.
my vet is closed until morning and i have no transportation until 7 am when my boyfriend gets home from work with the car.
does anyone know anything i can do for him? or if it seems likely it is RI i know piggies can have Doxy and i have some 100 mg powder caps i use for treating my mice, does anyone know the dosage for piggies?

What color is the eye discharge? If it looks like white tears thats normal and part of the grooming process for pigs.
Other colors could indicate RI, injury, etc. The rapid breathing and weight loss are a big concern. Is your pig making poops and eating normally? Pigs can die in as little as 12 hours without food in their tummies. Their GI tract is constantly going and will shut down if they dont eat. If hes not pooping or not eating definitely get him to an emergency vet right away.

Good luck. Sending good thoughts
