Should I get a cat?
« on: October 08, 2015, 09:41:16 PM »

I'm a college student thinking about getting a cat next year after I graduate, and I've been doing research to see if that's a good idea. I've never had a cat, though I have had fish, hermit crabs, rats, and a dog, and I want to be sure that one would be a good pet for me.

I've read up on basic care, but I wanted to ask y'all if there was anything you wish you had known before getting a cat, or any daily issues/annoyances that a cat owner has to be willing to deal with? The sort of things that might not come up in a care manual?
I love my sweetie-rat Shushara!

Well, cats live 15-20 years while rats live 18-36 months. Not a commitment to be made lightly. Also lone cats can do great, so a happy cat is fine. I have been told to get a cat a friend and sometimes they don't do well together. Sometimes they are best buds.
