It looks painful. Do they get some painkillers?

Not at this point.  She does get mushy food.  After the trim she sometimes gets pain medications, but is often able to chew on solids again after a few days.

Poor Teefs! Did something happen to Teefs, or is this a genetic problem? Can Teefs brux?

Teefs was born like this. A girl bought her as a baby from the petstore and tried her best to afford the trims, but she kept Leaving it too late and the bottom incisors would grow into the lip and get infected. Each vet trip became a $200 expense. She was going to euth her until I stepped in. She was only 5 months old at the time.

Hi Lilspaz,

I just went to google and typed in 'normal rat skull xray' - and under images it seems to be showing one. (For me it's the second image shown over to the right. The first one seems to be a human skull, and then right after that.) I clicked on that image and it matches like the one you have above. Hope that helps, LR2

The good news is that Dr. Munn thinks we can *try* for 2 weeks between trims for Pele. Keep your fingers crossed!

You can see the roots of her upper teeth still up there.  I wonder if they don't cause her issues.

X-rays are interesting, but don't count as Pele pics.  :poke:

I am planning on some soon.  I have been nursing a sweet little oldie in her last days (Pele has been out with us but Kitty insisted on being ON me as much as possible)  Kitty passed yesterday morning quietly, so now we can go back to our regularly scheduled program :D

I really should try to get a pic of her playing with me...she uses her paws like another rat would use their mouth...its sooo funny!

Those dang teeth!

I took pics yesterday, the 9 day post-trim pictures.
Sigh :/

Called vet clinic told them I was emailing pics to see if Pele should come before Friday, found out my vet isn't in until Wednesday anyways so the earliest would be Thursday :(

At rest.

Trying to show you how long they are...

Running along with bay window at my mom's this weekend...

I edited because the pics weren't showing for me...  Hopefully they'll work for everyone now...

This poor girl just can't catch a break!  And neither can you!  :(

Oh no. They grow so fast! Is it because of her injury or not related at all? I hope it will start to slow down as she ages.

Poor baby. I love her eyes. Since the X-ray showed the teeth at too deformed an angle for proper bruxing, could you just have them removed?

No because they are set in solidly, not diseased or rotten which would make it a lot easier.  the chances of fracturing her jaw (and ultimately ending her life are waaay too high in this case for me to be remotely comfortable with it.  Incisor removal is a huuuge surgery and very dangerous.
