Mousse came home from surgery!
« on: April 30, 2016, 09:38:22 PM »
My Moussey came home this morning after having 3 very large tumors removed. Normally we remove them before they get very big, but Mouse has a tumor under her tongue that is inoperable so we decided with our vet it was probably best to PTS when the time was right. We went in for check ups every so often to get updated on her tongue tumor -which wasnt growing at all. Her other tumors however were starting to scab and ran the risk of bursting. We decided it was not her time, and opted to remove the other tumors since her tongue tumor was not bothering her/getting larger. We didnt have much hope that she would make it through surgery but our vet did a fantastic job and she spent a few days at the vets on oxygen and we just got the okay to bring her home today. We are happy to get to spend a little longer with her. Who knows when/if the tumors will come back, or if her tongue tumor will start bothering her, but Im happy we decided to opt for surgery. It was either surgery or it was time to PTS.

She is now happily at home relaxing. Here is a picture of her eating baby food off my finger. And also a bonus pic of Popcorn who is happy to have her sister back after a few days all alone.

Thank you all. I just had to share. It's amazing she made it through. I knew you guys could understand and share in my happiness. There have been times where we've tried everything to save a sick rattie and it does no good... Finally, we can say it did some good to try.

Yes! She's so much more active now! I am so so so happy. She really is her old self (before the tumors). She has a twinkle in her eye. She runs (waddles) out for food. I think I even heard her walking a few steps on the wheel the other night. I am so thankful that this helped her. I tell Bryan every time I visit with the ratties "look at her! Shes so happy and so much better!". its night and day difference and I cant help but take note every time.

Thank you so much for thinking about Mousse. Mousse says hello!

I found Mousse passed away this morning. Her tumors came back full force. We saw the vet a few days ago about what to do. We scheduled surgery for Monday. Since she did so well last time we figured we may as well try because the other option was PTS. The last few days she had gone downhill but I didn't expect to find her already gone. She had over a month of tumor-free, happy living. I am grateful for that much.

So sorry for your loss. I'm really glad you were able to buy some good time with her before her passing. Play hard at the bridge, sweet Mousse.

I'm sorry you lost your sweet girl.  It never really gets any easier, does it? :'(

It probably doesn't help to hear this just now, but Vonda is right:  you did well to give Mousse so much extra good-quality time.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

With all you guys have going on, I'm sure it was a true sacrifice to buy Mousse that extra time with the old twinkle back in her eye. I treasure you for making that choice. Although it's a shock to find them gone, maybe she chose to pass peacefully at home on her own. So, so sorry you lost another special one. What a reunion you and Mousse will have at the Bridge one day!

Thank you BeenToTheMountaintop and ILoveMyRatties. Your kind words are very appreciated. We hope she passed peacefully. When I found her that morning she looked as though she was just in a deep sleep. I called her name and went to stroke her head. It was only when I felt how cold she was did I realize.

We took her body to the vet this morning for cremation/scattering/burial. The vet actually came out to speak to Bryan about it. She said her tumors were likely malignant.  :'(
