Meet Ana and Evie :)
« on: August 22, 2016, 02:25:53 PM »
Saturday morning at 4:30 am I woke up to go the bathroom and take some ibuprofen for an ugly brewing headache.  I was awake so decided to check online to see if I had anything urgent to deal with on RRLWK or PM's etc.  I found a Guest Private Message.

Hey ,two rats were dropped off at my house since word got out I have rats in Dorchester... They're really sick and I need to surrender them is there anything you can do? Or help me out with?

Uhoh.  So I accepted the message and luckily 15 year old Hannah was awake.  I soon found out that the deadline to get them safe was incredibly short...I had until 5 PM that day or they would be dropped off a the local HS to be put to sleep. Agggggghhhh!!!   :shocked2:

They were in a city far from me (especially with no car) and were not on any bus routes being a small town.  I msg'd rescues nearby but both of them were not always fast to return messages.  By 10 am I was startign to arrange with a local owner if she could pick them up but I would have to Interac bank transfer her funds to buy a small temp cage.  Then my friend came online and when I pounced on her to find out what the cheapest cages were at the petstores, she offered to drive and pick up these 2 little girls and is fostering them for me... *whew*

They are now Ana (PEW) and Evie (black or agouti)

Here is the first pic I saw of poor sick Ana

and a video of her breathing

and finally a video of her and Evie (hadn't seen her yet)

Their Freedom Ride pic!

At Jenny's they were medicated, Revo'd and put up quickly.  They had NO clue what the big bowl of food was for...OURS???

Evie loves her sister and brings food back to the nest...its soo sweet!  They are only 9-12 months old and Ana especially has a long way to go with how bad their lice infestation and how bad her respiratory infection is, but I think she's a fighter :)

That's great news. So happy you had an headache that night, lol. Without that headache you might not have been able to rescue them in time! Are you going to get them soon or are they staying at their foster home?

They look like sweet girls.  I'm so glad they found their way into your hands.  Good luck!

Jenny my friend/foster found bloody urine last night (3 days into her course of abs) and a character change for Ana. I was hoping it was just pain, but Metacam only made her sleepy :(

Jenny's worried about our sick little girl but I get her on Saturday so let's see how she is then

Ana is fighting for her life right now, so any well.wishes would be appreciated. If she's not doing better on Saturday she will stay where she is and we'll discuss options but most likely will have her put to sleep. I may never meet her :(

The UTI is the real concern...the respiratory is starting to break up.

BUT good news, Jenny has decided she's good enough to come tonight with them...sooo excited :D

They are here!!!

Evie was very shy and timid initially...now she seems a bit relieved to getting a break from nursing, and is loving climbing around and exploring. :). Ana is very unsure of people, she carefully watches the rubs and scratches I give elderly Templeton her new cuddle buddy..shes trying to figure out if the other shoe is going to  drop. So we are on Ana's timetable to trust.

I think so. She got a bit of dex this morning for comfort/opening up her lungs and she's definitely in rough shape, since my guess is shes been sick a long long time. it's going to take a long long timm to get her even remotely back in shape. A young girl left these 2 young girls in her mom's care 7 months ago and the girl came back to sick, lice-infested, filthy starving rats  :puppy_dog_eyes:

But her eyes are bright and I think wants to fight. Pics are next  ;D

I think a lot of Ana's healing will come from her mind.  Between yesterday morning when she was mostly finding a place to sleep or rest she started to feel better all day and by evening was exploring and bright and every sound by me seemed to trigger her "food response"..."Where is the FOOD?"  She would come out quick and bright eyed and expectant of being fed.  I bet if I weighed her she's put on a bunch of grams LOL.  Also as expected she and Evie love Pele :D

Evie was alternating between licking and sucking up the baby food...I expected to hear slurping  :yelcutelaugh:  She's really coming around with me :D

Most ladies don't look their best with their mouth full!

Did you say FOOD?

Pele and Ana

Pele uses her paws to bat at and play with other rats...its just Her.  Most rats recognize this and don't mind.

Pele is an honorary vet tech! She looks so cute with her new patient! I wonder if Pele is hand wrestling like you do?
