Lump, Scab, Abscess, Tumour?
« on: December 31, 2017, 04:42:57 AM »
History: Remy came to us in December 2016. We were told she had ‘stress-eye’ and has always had excess porphyrin around her left eye. In July, she developed a small lump under her right eye. This turned in to a scab and has had its own lifecycle - it scabs, the scab falls off, it heals, it lumps...
In the last two-three weeks this lump/scab has got much worse. She has also put on a lot of weight recently...

Has anyone had any experience with this or know what it could be?

She is currently seeing a vet regularly and is on antibiotics to see if an infection is the cause.

Remy has since been back to the vets and it isn’t an abscess... they have attempted to drain it but nothing came out. Next step is removal (which will include taking her eye) if it doesn’t decrease in size  :(

I've never heard of anything like this. Please keep us informed on what the vet says! I'm curious now.

(I would have responded sooner but was taking some time with my family)

Unfortunately the lump continued to grow... she had a successful lumpectomy and eye removal last Friday and is recovering well with an open approach (as she managed to open the site). Other than gut stasis (and the mild panic from me when she opened up the wound) she is coping very well 😊
The vet has advised that she wasn’t able to get as clear a margin as she would have like but Remy will certainly be more comfortable without the giant lump in her way.

We made the decision to go ahead as it was started to trouble her eye from where the lump was pushing up on the eyelid into her eye.
I’d post pictures but I can’t figure out how to on here! 😂

We are also lucky enough that we have someone in the family who can do some testing and provide us with a histology report on the lump. I’ll update as soon as we’ve had it back.

If you'd like to post pictures, they first have to be posted somewhere on the Net.  I use Flickr, myself.  Then, once you have the URL, you insert it in your post by using the image tag, as follows:  [ img ] URL [ /img ]

The spaces are there to make the code visible and must not appear in an actual post.  Please do not include more than ten images in a single post.  If you have more than ten pics, that's fine, just don't put more than ten per post.

We’ve had the report back. Not a good result unfortunately... she has Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. We have decided to keep her comfortable as she now has other lumps too 😞

I am so very sorry that is a nasty aggressive tumor and its probably not likely that your vet was able to get decent margins during the removal.  Did you ever get pics?

Oh I am sorry for both of you.  that would be nasty and a horribly difficult removal.  ((hugs))

This was a few days after removal. Vet did say she didn’t get it all and it has now come back 😞 with a lump under her arm, nodules on her toes and potential melanoma on her tail too.

She’s currently a happy girly but I don’t think it will be too long before her time is here
