Pele *sniff*
« on: February 09, 2018, 11:43:38 AM »
This sad but expected day finally came. You always want the Specials to live forever and some really really try to do it for you, but bodies fail and age takes us all... :puppy_dog_eyes:

I got around the 10 pic rule here as I am posting her memorial link on my blog instead...  :cheeky:

Pele was so sweet and so special. We've all lost a wonderful sole. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Oh, Shelagh, I'm so sorry!  You've taken care of so many rats and shared so many wonderful stories of them, but Pele really stood out.  I'm sorry she's no longer with us.  She was such a special rat, and your delight in her was clear.  I'm sorry for your loss. :'(

Pele and I have been together almost the whole of her 27 months (less 17 days).  She came with me when I went to Mom's for weekends or holidays, she was out with me every single day except a few days in the first year when she was in with her remaining family, and I was ill or something.  The last year she's been a full time bed rat and learning to live without her in my life is still incredibly difficult.  I say goodnight to her every night...I'm sure she's still around or at least checking in occasionally.  I have NO bedrats right now so can't even be distracted by others...haha.

My fav baby video of Pele...one last one

This was a HUGE milestone in Pele's little life.  She was finally able to connect her paws and her mouth and even ATE something solid.  Over time its like the connections in her brain found new paths and in the end she was able to grasp soft items and eat them akwardly :D

Ah man! The video isn't playing. :( Photobucket doesn't like for us to do third-party sharing now, they want to charge us for that.

Did photobucket actually make the conscious decision to become the worst?

I think.so. unfortunately I have thousands and thousands of pics and videos on there, so I am going to have to pay the annual fee of $99.99 to allow third party sharing and not lose them. Videos aren't supported on PB any longer either. Ohhh I wonder if I can download that video and put it on YouTube?

Did photobucket actually make the conscious decision to become the worst?

This was the email I got from them last year:

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Why Photobucket?
Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads and 10 billion photos accessed monthly.

Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge required

Competitive, fixed pricing Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use)

Are my pictures still safe?
Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites.

Can I download my Photos?
Absolutely, at any time. It is an easy four step process:

Step 1. Login to your Photobucket Account

Step 2. Navigate to your library page

Step 3. View a photo and click the download button

Step 4. The picture will be saved to your computer

SO... I'm slowly moving my pictures from Photobucket and putting them onto a drive on my computer. I've got tons of pictures on there and don't want to lose them OR pay Photobucket for them.

I have over 14,000 images and videos on Photobucket. I actually found a Chrome extension that I paid $1.99 Cdn for, and it allows me to download full album. Ive downloaded added 75 albums now and only have about 200 to.go.:)

Tomorrow I do medical...ugh.

Thankfully I have an external.hard drive to.store them on for now.

I'm so sorry! I came here with what I thought was happy news, just to see this. What a special little girl Pele was! It was a happy privilege getting to watch her grow and thrive, and good to see her little life filled with so much love. She had a great many fans and will be sorely missed.

RIP, little one.  :'(

There was a "workaround" for the Photobucket nonsense. Adding "~original" (sans quotes) in between ".jpg" and [/img] used to work, although I haven't tried it in a while.

Again, my deepest condolences.
RIP Newton, Flower, my precious Nilla, Penny, Molly, Skeeter, Gizmo, our sweetest boy Bandit, my forever soulrat Pillsbury, and crazy man BooBoo...play hard and run free li'l ones! We miss you all so very much! Present mischief:  Gracie, Stanley, Dave, Oliver, and Scooter.

I want to warn everyone with the album download add-on with Chrome, only downloads pics not videos.  You have to download those one by one...

So since I was doing this already, I uploaded my fav videos of baby Pele to Youtube...enjoy!!!

One of the things I love about rats is their zest for life.  They take obstacles in their stride and don't let them get in the way.  Pele was a supreme example of that.  She overcame all the damage to have a great life, and her loving spirit always showed through.  She was a great example for me, especially during all the stuff I went through during the last eighteen months, so I'm very grateful that you shared her story with us.  These little creatures can have such an effect on the world, despite their small size.
